ROGER AND THE GYPSIES
The group was a collaboration between a group called Earl Stanley And The Stereos and none other than Eddie Bo.
'Pass The Hatchet' was originally issued in 1966.
Roger And The Gypsies were responsible for the very first record on the Seven B label. This reissue on BLACK 7-INCH VINYL features both the first and second part of the song.

When the needle hits the wax, if you ain't dancin' you're dead!

The "singing" and production is by Eddie Bo, and it passed almost unnoticed when it was released.
But later, "Pass The Hatchet" was on one of the Las Vegas Grind comps, a Minit/Instant Records retrospective, and currently on the SoulJazz "Saturday Night Fish Fry" set.

It also appeared on the soundtrack of the movie "Desperado".
Why? easy, this is a party starter of the first oder:
opening with a super-solid bass drum beat and Eddie's order to "Pass out the hatchets, baby!".

The power of the drums here proves that NOBODY recorded drums like the New Orleans producers.
Eddie's keeps popping up with interjections and funky grunts (there is an "UNHH!" on this record that manages to carry in it the weight of ALL recorded funk).
Powerful!
Very limited reissue.
