Here's a collection of extremely rare 1970s killer kid-funk gospel from a Saginaw-based family band. Minimal and mind-blowing, the sound is remastered from the original master tapes. This LP is part of the Knight Foundation-supported 'Detroit Gospel Reissue Project'. Fully licensed, this reissue is limited to 450 copies on 150-gram vinyl, including a 2-sided info sheet.
Totally wonderful work from this obscure Detroit group, a quintet of very young gospel singers, and one that gets some wicked work on electric guitar as well!
The music has a vibe that's every bit what you'd expect from the cover - very raw, and at-home - with that guy on his knees laying down some bluesy guitar licks on just about every track, really helping the energy of the younger voices to soar!
The lyrical themes are spiritual, but the delivery is maybe far grittier than any of the hippest funky 45 soul of the time, on titles that include "It's Going To Rain", "Don't Let The Devil Ride", "Precious Lord", "Jesus Met The Woman At The Well", "Running For Jesus", "I Believe There's A Heaven Somewhere", and "This Train".
